spooky & hard
prints in both sides
i thought the back was a catholic prayer
i looked further into it & discovered it’s actually a prayer (La Oración à la Santísima Muerte) to “santa muerte” or in english “saint death” — the personification of death
similar to what we think of as the grim reaper
but with a bit of a controversial & underground take…
originally those who worshipped santa muerte were thought to be engaging in folklore by traditional catholics
& many of santa muerte’s devotees happened to be those who worked thru the dangers of the night… the working class who was most at risk of harm
think: dealers, strippers, bartenders, cab drivers, police, soldiers …
prayers to her were thought to bring healing & protection + a safe guide crossing over to the afterlife
i read that thru the 2000s era, the open worship of santa muerte become a more openly debated topic amongst latin communities which makes me think this graphic is a fitting homage to the style of the mid-to-late 2000s era
could even be a combination of vintage clothing references from around that time
if ur still reading i appreciate u
we both learned something new
s/o supreme for making a design of substance under the guise of a fried ass 2000s gangster tee
